In the course of a solitary and silent quest, Arvo Pärt forged a unique and timeless musical language, rooted in spirituality and nature. On the occasion of his 90th birthday, discover his works performed by renowned choirs and young Estonian artists.
“Minimalism is not a style for me, but a means to reach essence and silence.” (Arvo Pärt) The Leuven-based choir Clari Cantores presents a programme in which Pärt’s spiritual minimalism forms the central thread. His music blends seamlessly with that of his Estonian compatriots Urmas Sisask and Cyrillus Kreek, who explore cosmic and religious themes. Brahms’ introspective psalm music and the meditative works of John Tavener and Eleanor Daley deepen this atmosphere of stillness. Under the direction of Michiel Haspeslagh, Clari Cantores demonstrates how ancient traditions and contemporary spirituality come together in an intense musical dialogue.
